Music Notes May 28, 2010

  • This week has been a busy one! We had a wonderful performance this past Tuesday that I hope everyone was able to make. It was full of energy and talent! Videos will be posted to YouTube as soon as I have time to edit them.
  • Today is 8th grade recognition! Both 8th grade choirs will perform this afternoon – Girls Choir with “Seasons of Love” and Choir Singers with “Don’t Stop Believin’”.
  • As the year is wrapping up, I am reflecting on the year we’ve had. Ups, downs, happy times, not so happy times, frustrations, achievements… All I can think of now though is how proud I am of all the hard work these students have put in to these groups to make them so wonderful. I can only hope that these fine musicians will continue on at some point in the high school for more rewarding experiences.
  • Students who are missing music have all received a slip stating what music they are missing. Students either need to turn in their music or pay their fine by the end of the progress period. Students who do not do this will be placed on the fees and fines list, unable to receive grade cards or locker combinations next year until the fine is paid.

  • This week students from the Girls Choir and the 7th Grade Choir created games for our carnival. Unfortunately, the carnival was rained out this week, but we will have a chance to display and run our games on June 4th!
  • Students have also been hard at work this week learning their dance numbers! I am so proud of all their hard work to learn these so quickly! They are going to “wow” the audience on Tuesday!
  • Medals from States are $4 if you would like one.
  • Medals from District Choral Festival are still on sale for $3.
  • Don’t forget to put our May 25th concert on your calendar! It’s the big one with all the jr. hi bands, orchestras and choirs! 7pm in the jr. hi gym!
  • Students who are missing music have all received a slip stating what music they are missing. Students either need to turn in their music or pay their fine by the end of the progress period. • Such a wonderful job all of our choirs did at State Festival! I am so proud to say that I am a director of such talented, respectful, well-behaved musicians. They have worked so hard and deserve the highest praise (which they received from their judges)!
  • Look for Festival Recordings on your choir’s webpage sometime this evening. I will have them posted by Saturday morning at the very latest!
  • This week we will be learning dances to all of our new songs for the spring concert. A big “thank you!” to Mrs. Smith who is choreographing these for us. We will need to be working extra hard next week to learn them in such little time.
  • Medals from States are $4 if you would like one.
  • Medals from District Choral Festival are still on sale for $3.

Music Notes April 16, 2010

• If you have attempted to email Mrs. Weiler in the past few weeks, Mrs. Weiler never received the email. Her inbox was not working properly. The problem should now be fixed, and she apologizes.
• This week all choirs have been working hard on their final songs of the year. One of these songs will be the song we take to State Festival, and the other song is something that we are likely to have heard on the radio at some point in time. All of our “popular” songs have solos, and we have started to hold auditions this week. All who auditioned did VERY well!
• Congratulations to Kat, Chandler, Corbin and Adam of the Choir Singers – they have the solos for “Don’t Stop Believin”!
• Congratulations to Morgan, Karlyn and Ryleigh of the Girls Choir – they have the solos for “Party in the USA”!
• 7th grade will have their auditions for “ABC” next week.
• All three of these songs will also have choreography. You are going to LOVE it!
• Please bring in a blank CD-R if you would like a rehearsal CD.
• Medals from District Choral Festival are still on sale for $3.
• State Choral Festival will be held at Jackson Community College on either May 11th or 12th.

Music Notes 3-26-10

Music Notes March 26, 2010

• Medals from District Choral Festival are still on sale for $3.
• Students are working hard on a new selection to perform at State Choral Festival. When we perform at States, we sing the two songs we sang at Districts (that have hopefully been improved!) and we add a third song.
• State Choral Festival will be held at Jackson Community College on either May 11th or 12th.
• We are also working on a fun, more popular song for our spring concert coming up on May 25th. Hopefully we will even add some choreography. Parents and friends are in for a treat!
• Just a reminder to have students turn in all missing music. Mrs. Weiler is compiling a list of students who have one or more pieces that they never returned. Students will be receiving a slip stating what music they are missing. If the music is not returned, or the fine to replace the music paid, students will be placed on the fees and fines list and will not be permitted to receive their grade cards at the end of the year or their locker combinations at the beginning of next year.
• Good luck to all the participants in Soiree Junior this weekend! I look forward to seeing the show!
• Have a nice weekend! Only one week before Spring Break! Let’s hope everyone can stay focused just a little longer!
